Today it seems as if there were a martial arts school on every corner and many of them are of dubious quality. Most students are children and taught them some form of martial arts. Some schools offer self defense training, or the promise of a good workout, but few teach real martial arts fighting. There was a time, but if the practical skills they needed to have learned to survive a real street fight. Among the few teachers who have been fighting really understood to martial arts and self defenseCharlie Nelson, took what he learned during the Second World War, and used them to prepare the average citizen to fight hand to hand.
Charlie Nelson's story begins in upstate New York where he grew up in a Catholic orphanage, and he joined the United States Marine Corp at the age of 19 years. While in the Marines, he would receive the best education possible melee. Before each melee training, Charlie was a good boxer. The first chance he had Navy boxing team. That is, if heheard of Colonel Anthony Drexel Biddle Marines had been trained in hand in order to fight the First World War Biddle hand and showed FBI agents in Quantico at the time.
As fate would have it there, while at Quantico, Nelson would bunk bed with John Styer is an expert in blade combat, later author of Cold Steel is an excellent book on the melee weapons. Probably it was here that Nelson learned the truth about the first self-defense, that his life would fight in the long run to form, a street fightcompletely different animal than a competition.
Colonel Biddle would not only Nelson teacher while in the Marines, though. He would train with Sergeant Patrick Kelly, who had served with the Fourth Marines stationed in China. Kelly had trained under Dermott O'Neill, who also served in the city of Shanghai, which at that time, the well-deserved reputation as the most violent city in the world. The Marines along with soldiers and police officers from many other nations, the assignedinternational city regularly violent street gangs and other criminals were fighting as they tried to maintain law and order and Insurgence prevented from town. It was here, the Marines could learn many important lessons from William Ewart Fairbairn and the Shanghai police.
Although Nelson would not be directly meet Fairbairn, Fairbairn had a profound impact on how Nelson would learn to fight. During the time Fairbairn as a police officer in Shanghai, he has an extensiveStudies of many Asian martial arts in an effort to create a simple and effective combat martial arts system. He drew heavily on his judo and jujitsu experience and shed unnecessary ritual and movement, reveals a simple system to fight these defendu. In addition to hand combat training he also taught effective methods of shooting and sharp weapons to hand combat knife Fairbairn (). He would later train spies and commandos during World War II. After he honored that have been adapted during World War II included the participation in the Battle of Guadalcanal with the First Marine Division, Nelson, to New York and establishment of the "Charles Nelson's School of Self Defense Combat Jiu-Jitsu and Karate." On the second floor of the school at West 72 Street, New York City, students would learn how to Street Fight, and Nelson abandoned the traditional martial arts uniforms in favor of theStreet clothes because he said that, what people wore when they really fought. Every step he taught could be used by anyone regardless of size or strength, and all his training scenarios were anchored in reality based on his research into actual crimes. He taught the people who do not play how to fight ".
Charles Nelson as some many others of his generation is no longer with us, but lives his work with us at The Red Manual. The book is filled with useful techniques that will work against thethe violent attacks. Nelson makes martial arts practice, for the average citizen and teaches them how to deal with a lot of attackers armed with knives, baseball bats, and even firearms. Even experienced martial artists such as former Army Ranger and a policeman Carl Cestari was removed from his dirty fighting techniques with a much older Nelson. Cestari was so impressed, he would be in Nelson's system and are certified in many of his techniques in his. Unfortunately, not allnoted Nelson system, but if people have the criminals would be those who live in fear. Nelson's methods of self-defense are as good as forgotten.
There are some who teach some of the principles handed down by them for the fathers of modern self-defense and martial arts reality. One such organization is the Self Defense Company.
